1952

Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip were visiting Kenya when her father King George VI, died. she returned to British soil the next day, for the first time as sovereign.


1954

Team Kenya at the 1954 Commonwealth Games.


1963

Kenya became a proud member of the Commonwealth in 1963 and remains committed to its ideals and objectives.


1970

HM Queen Elizabeth II congratulates Ben Jipcho at the Commonwealth Games which she attended in her capacity as Head of the commonwealth for the first time.


1971

Prince Charles and Princess Anne made an Official Visit to Kenya in 1971. The Princess came in her capacity as President of the Save the Children Fund, while the Prince paid visits to Mombasa and Lake Turkana.


1974

Sabina Chebichi won her first marathon in 1973 while barefoot and wearing nothing but a petticoat. She became the 1st Kenyan female athlete to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games in 1974.


1983

Queen Elizabeth II visited Kenya on a 4-day state visit en route to the Commonwealth Conference in India. During her visit, she spent some time viewing some of Kenya’s finest wildfire.


1990

Double marathon triumph by John Ekiru Kelai and Irene Jerotich Kosgei consolidated Kenya’s achievement in becoming the most successful nation in athletics at a Commonwealth Games for the first time.


2008

The Commonwealth assisted in the drafting of various bills in the Kenya Constitution 2010 through provision of Legal drafters.


2010

A royal proposal Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in Kenya on the exquisite slopes of Mt Kenya


2015

Unveiling of the Memorial to the victims of torture and ill-treatment during the colonial era


2018

Kenya is the world’s largest exporter of black tea and the UK and Ireland are some of the largest drinkers of it.
